Ford Swims 76 percent Lifetime bests at Sectionals! or was it 96 percent.

Tucson Ford Aquatics was well represented at the 2009 Western Sectional Championships held in Portland, Oregon. We had many great swims and many new Junior National Qualifying times. However, we will start with the stat of the meet.

Ford had sixteen swimmers at the meet and they swam 76.5% lifetime bests at the meet.

That sounds pretty impressive until you dig a little deeper. If you only include the eleven swimmers in that group who had greater than 75% attendance (minimum of 6/8 practices per week) during the entire long course season, which runs from late March through the meet start date (17 weeks), that number jumps twenty percentage points (from 76.5% to 96.5%). The point? There are no shortcuts to great performance! If you want to become a great swimmer, you have to make the commitment to attend every practice, to work hard, and pay attention to the little things. You can control what happens to you at the end of the season, by committing to showing up, working hard, and correcting your technique in dryland, and in the water throughout the season. If you can figure out how to do this for two or three seasons in a row, watch out! The final question: What are your goals, and are they consistent ant with your commitment to becoming great?
